With their head office located in an old mill from the industrial revolution on a 26 acre site, Renishaw plc is a leading provider of metrology probing solutions to industries around the world.

The touch-trigger probe was invented in 1972 by Chairman and Chief Executive Sir David McMurtry to solve a specific inspection requirement of measuring complex pipe runs for the Olympus engines used on Concorde.
The early product focus for the first Renishaw company established in 1973 by David and John Deer was on the manufacturing processes, initially using probing systems for the post-process inspection of finished components on CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines). A range of probes was then developed for component inspection on CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machine tools, as well as for tool setting and job set-up, which led the way to automated manufacturing.

Today, Renishaw products ensure that exacting specifications are met with cost effective methods and their products are able to perform measurements to international standards. Renishaw fundamentally believes that success comes from patented and innovative products and processes, and high quality manufacturing. The Group's products ensure that exacting specifications are met with cost effective methods and perform measurement to international standards.
