Austech 2010 review

From May 11-14 Hi-Tech Metrology was again pleased to exhibit at Australia's premier annual manufacturing show - AUSTECH.

This year AUSTECH was held in Sydney at Olympic Park and we were pleased to take this opportunity and release the all new Sheffield Discovery series III CMM.  Being displayed for the first time in Australia the Discovery III is the next evolution of the highly successful shop floor Discovery series CMM from Sheffield Measurement, it provides improved accuracy and thermal performance by a combination of mechanical and controller improvements and with the addition of support for CMM-V and ScanShark probes the Discovery III is now a multi-sensor shop floor CMM.

Also on display was a Brown & Sharpe Global scanning CMM, Micro-Vu vision CMM, FARO ScanArm with V3 LLP, FARO Gage, ZScanner 800 handheld laser scanner, PolyWorks V11 from Innovmetric software and the OptoTrak Pro system from NDI of Canada.

Demonstrations included high precision scanning of an artificial hip joint on the Global CMM, low cost automated measurement of precision machined parts on the Discovery III, 3D laser scanning of an aftermarket automotive bucket seat using a Faro ScanArm, Reverse Engineering of a forged component using the ZScanner 800 with PolyWorks V11, rapid inspection of complex organic shapes using NDI's OptoTrak Pro system and inspection of micro-machined, electronic and flexible components on the Micro-Vu systems.
Hi-Tech Metrology was also a key participant in the Innovate 2010 display - a showcase for the latest in manufacturing technologies from around the world, put together by AMTIL with assistance from the Australian Government.

AUSTECH 2010 was a great success and I would like to thank everyone who stopped by our displays along with the entire Hi-Tech team who spent many long hours setting up and manning the stands during the exhibition and finally helping to pack up the equipment.

It was a great team effort with a special mention to Mick O'Reilly who put in many long hours over a number of nights to get the displays up and running in time for the exhibition.
